Arise, Sir Danny...

It's so easy to criticise and so damned difficult to create.

I've heard criticism of the London 2012 opening ceremony. Some have said the NHS sequence was too long and that Danny Boyle shouldn't have used such a ceremony to make a point. "Leftie crap" was another criticism. "The music used wasn't a true representation of Britain" was yet another. Danny Boyle might not have pleased everyone, but he certainly pleased me. …

London 2012

To me, the Olympics is just something to pass the time until the football season gets underway. Having said that, I know I'll be hooked and will of course be rooting for TeamGB. What I'm really looking forward to is the opening ceremony. With our own Danny Boyle in charge, it's sure to be brimming with spectacular awesomeness. I gather his budget was around £27million, and while some, like me, would say it damn well ought to be good at that price, others will acknowledge that the amount is peanuts when compared to what other countries have spent.

Outside of a dog...

a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. (So said Groucho Marx.)

I had another delivery of books this week and as I'm running out of space, I'm considering opening a bookshop. I can see it now - big comfy armchairs, coffee machines always full, muffins always fresh and, most important, really good books.

On the subject of books, thank you to everyone who entered my …

Seeing a man about a dog...

Happy Friday the Thirteenth, everyone!

I had a nice mail delivery though.

Yay! As much as I love ebooks, there's a certain thrill about receiving a box of real books. …

A passing fad?

I heard not one but two people comment this week that ebooks were a passing fad. Yikes! I hope not. It set me thinking though. When Presumed Dead was published digitally, back in July 2010, few of my friends owned an ereader device. I even wrote a blog post for my then brand new publisher, Carina Press, explaining how I bought my iPad just so that I could see my own book on it.

Two years on, most of my friends have bought Kindles. …

Beside the sea...

So much for all the work I was planning to do over the weekend…

On Saturday, I had a yearning for the sea (I often have them) and decided that Sunday must be spent on the beach. We checked the tide times for our west coast, about an hour away, and - yes, you guessed it - we would have seen nothing but mud. So yesterday, we headed for the east coast. It took us almost 3 hours to get to the sea but it was worth every second. …
