To me, the Olympics is just something to pass the time until the football season gets underway. Having said that, I know I'll be hooked and will of course be rooting for TeamGB. What I'm really looking forward to is the opening ceremony. With our own Danny Boyle in charge, it's sure to be brimming with spectacular awesomeness. I gather his budget was around £27million, and while some, like me, would say it damn well ought to be good at that price, others will acknowledge that the amount is peanuts when compared to what other countries have spent.
It's all been kept secret, but I gather live animals are involved. About seventy sheep? Hmm. I hope they have some good dogs around because sheep are stroppy creatures. Daniel Craig and Kenneth Branagh are said to be involved which can only be a good thing. Sir Paul McCartney is closing the ceremony which I suppose is okay (sorry, Paul, but I was always a Rolling Stones girl).
It seems that the identity of the person lighting the cauldron is the best kept secret ever. Who can that be?
Greece will lead out the athletes, 203 other nations will follow, then TeamGB will be led out by Sir Chris Hoy. (We need a big shout out here because leading out the Qatar team will be the daughter of blogger extraordinaire, Record of a Baffled Spirit. Give her a wave!)
What about you? Will you watch the opening ceremony? Will you watch as many events as you can? Do you have tickets?
Have a great weekend, everyone, and good luck to all involved with London 2012!
