There's a bit of a debate going on at the moment regarding our use of the English language. Some argue that children spend so much time using textspeak - either via text messages, Facebook and Twitter, etc., that they have no real grasp of vocabulary and punctuation. And being a boring old git, I have to agree with them.
My daughter once brought home a piece of written work on which her teacher had written 'Excellent'. Spelling was atrocious and there wasn't a punctuation mark to be seen. When I commented on this to said teacher, she declared, "Oh, we don't worry about punctuation. We want our pupils to be able to express themselves." Um, yes, don't we all, but why can't pupils express themselves correctly? I shall go to my grave irritated by that.
If you're sending a text message, do you use the correct spellings and punctuation or do you use textspeak? My messages will (hopefully) include every comma and apostrophe necessary. (They'll take me an age to send though. :o))
Right, I'll climb down from my soapbox...
If you haven't said hello to Friday's guest, the lovely Marcelle Dubé, you can do so here. (I am so in love with that troll!) Seems like we're all going to the Yukon via Seattle. :)
On Friday, I'll be welcoming Rita Henuber to the blog. Can't wait. Watch this space!
Meanwhile, I'll c u l8r.
