Three readers have emailed me this week (always such a thrill to hear from readers!) and said how much they enjoy the settings in my books. The interesting thing is that not one of these readers lives in the UK. Two were from the US and one from Australia. Or perhaps that's not so interesting/surprising as people in the UK think Lancashire and automatically think grim northern towns scattered with old mill chimneys - and rain. Okay, so we get a lot of rain. A lot of rain.
My books usually take place during winter months when snow cuts of villages, rain is unrelenting, and the wind whips across the moors. Crime, murder and mayhem - well, such things simply don't seem to go hand in hand with hot sunny days. Having said that, I've read excellent crime books that take place during stifling heatwaves.
The rain we get means that everywhere looks beautifully lush and green though…
We do see a blue sky occasionally - honest!
And okay, there are a few mill chimneys about. Most are beautiful things, but I'll admit some are a bit tatty. You will note another blue sky though...
So that's me being upbeat and positive about the weather we've had in Lancashire recently. (Yes, of course I'd pack up and move to the south of France in a heartbeat. What do you think I am? Stupid? :o))
Have a great weekend, everyone. And may the sun shine on all of us!
